Join Ruth from Bluebell Lane and learn to sculpt your own piece of jewellery.
Using a mouldable wax, which becomes malleable once warmed in your hands, you will be shown a mix of techniques to help shape, smooth and sculpt your own unique creation. The wax will later be transformed in to silver, using the lost wax casting technique.
The possibilities when working with this wax are endless, it feels fairly similar to plasticine, so when thinking about what you might like to make, if you could make it with plasticine, you could make it with this wax.
Once you've finished your wax piece, I will send it off to a lovely independent foundry to be cast in solid recycled sterling silver. I will then de-sprue, add any earring backs or settings for chain to be added, and give them a good polish! This part of the process usually takes around 4-5 weeks, and they will then be ready to post out to you or ready to collect if you are local.
Chains are available to add at an additional cost, and you will be able to see these and decide which length you would like during the workshop.
What to expect on the day:
- As much time as you need to create something wonderful! (Usually around 1-1.5 hours, but if you need longer you are very welcome to take your time.)
- Enough wax to make either a ring, a pendant or a pair of earrings.
- Choose to make your own design or follow one of the step by steps guide to create a star or affirmation bottle. I have a few inspiration/reference books for you to look through, but feel free to bring any objects or pictures that you would like to work from too!
- A mix of tools and guidance on different techniques.
- You'll work among a small group of up to 6 people.
- The way we will be working, isn't particularly messy, so just wear whatever you are comfortable in. If you wear glasses for close up work, please bring these along with you.
